SUNDAY SCHOOL
Sundays at 10:30 am

Athabasca United Church Sunday School is a warm family-centred learning environment that nurtures children's spiritual growth and development through a variety of activities.

SEASONS OF THE SPIRIT, a new curriculum, focuses on the same weekly bible readings as the worship service so families can learn together.

Children attend the beginning of the worship services with their families.

Then the children share in a child focussed discussion with the minister followed by a musical response with the congregation.

Nest the children go to their Sunday School area beside the worship service to participate in age appropriate activities.

There is a Junior / Intermediate Class and a Senior Class each with their own teacher.

There is a play area nearby for the younger children.

Junior / Intermediate Class (ages 3 to 6 / Grades 2 to 4) Activities include visits from Charlie the Churchmouse, bible stories, crafts, activity and colorating pages, group projects and simple games.

Senior Class Activities (Grades 5 and up) include bible study, making real life connections, craft and writing projects done individually or in groups, and simple games.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ's)

Is There A Cost To Sunday School?

There is no cost to Sunday School, but children can make a voluntary coin offering to Sunday School and/or the Mission and Service Fund of The United Church and/or the Christian Blind Mission International. Children often like a variety of small coins so they can give something to all of them.

My Child Doesn't Like School?

There are no tests or performance standards at Sunday School. We try to meet a variety of learning styles. Behavior expectations are simple and based on respect for others.

My Child Has Never Been To Church Before?

Everyone is welcome. Baptism is not necessary for attendance. Older children may do more mature activities with the Intermediate class if they are not comfortabl with the level of study in the Senior class. The separation between the Intermediate and Senior class is based more on experience than age.

My Child Does Not Like To Dress Up?

There is no dress code for church. Children should be comfortable, able to sit on a carpeted floor, and able to use washable paint, markers, and glue without spoiling their clothes.
